Spring Research Day: See student innovation in action
At the University of Missouri–St. Louis, student research and community impact will take center stage May 5 during Spring Research Day, an annual event highlighting the work of nursing students engaged in community-based clinical projects.
Students in the Evidence-Based Practice and Community-Focused are programs will present posters showcasing their community-based clinical work, offering attendees an opportunity to explore how classroom learning translates into real-world health care solutions.
The event also includes the McIntosh-Durham lecture. It started in 1999 to honor Elizabeth McIntosh, the first director of the Barnes School of Nursing, and Jerry Durham, a former dean of the College of Nursing.
Spring Research Day is designed to be both educational and interactive. UMSL nursing students are excited to make a real-world difference in community health, and this is the perfect opportunity to share their ideas with the public. Visitors can walk among student presentations, speak directly with participants about their projects and learn how emerging nurses apply creativity and hard work to address community health challenges.
Fan Li, Ph.D., assistant professor, is organizing the event with the Scholarship, Research and Evidence-Based Practice Committee and the Innovations and Community Engagement Committee.
"We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Spring Research Day, where our undergraduate nursing students will share the results of their community projects developed with local community partners over several semesters,” Li said. “Students will present their work through podium presentations. Additionally, our students will present how they use evidence from research to answer important clinical questions using poster presentations. Our committees are truly excited about this event and look forward to celebrating the hard work and achievements of our students.”
This year’s McIntosh-Durham lecturer is Dr. Anne Sales from the University of Missouri. Her work focuses on effectively integrating evidence-based interventions into routine clinical practice. She will speak about the important connection between evidence and nursing practice at the Spring Research Day.
The event is open to the public, and the College of Nursing encourages alumni and community members to RSVP to attend.
