The College of Nursing

The UMSL College of Nursing was established in 1981 with the initiation of a BSN completion program. A full BSN program including an accelerated option for non-nurses, MSN programs and academic and professional doctoral programs were established by 2000. UMSL is the only public institution in the St. Louis metropolitan area that offers baccalaureate through doctoral nursing education. The College enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with the regions health services providers our community of interest.

College of Nursing Faculty

The Colleges nursing faculty members are recognized as leaders in the education of nurses and innovators in nursing practice and research. The faculty, through teaching and research, is at the forefront in the changes in delivery of health care and are dedicated to the advancement of the nursing profession. Students have access to faculty through classroom and clinical settings, the internet and extracurricular activities.

Post MSN Certificates in Nursing

Nurses who already have a MSN are eligible to take coursework to achieve a post MSN certificate in an area of Advanced Nursing Practice. At the end of the program, Nurse Practitioner students are eligible to take the examination for certification in any of our specialty areas. Post-masters curricula focus on the core MSN and the track-specific content for the role. The length of the program and the specific plan of study for each student will vary, depending on the students previous academic coursework and the students proposed Advanced Practice Role.

A post MSN certificate in Nursing Education, although not currently offered, is in the process of being approved.
