Organization and Administration
The University of Missouri-St. Louis is one of four campuses within the University of Missouri System, operating under the governance of a nine member Board of Curators. The chief operating officer of the University of Missouri-St. Louis is the Chancellor who reports directly to the System President. These materials delineate faculty, staff, and administrative policies for the four campuses.
The College of Nursing is one of eleven colleges, schools, and divisions comprising the University of Missouri-St. Louis. These include the Colleges of: Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Business Administration, Education, Fine Arts and Communication, Graduate School, Pierre Laclede Honors College, Optometry, the UMSL/Washington University Engineering Program, the School of Social Work, and the Division of Continuing Education and Outreach.
College of Nursing
The Dean serves as the chief academic and fiscal officer of the College and reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean represents the College at the campus, system and community levels. The Dean provides the direction and leadership for all aspects of the College.
The Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program, the Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, and the Associate Dean for the PhD Program and Research manage the daily activities of the undergraduate and graduate programs. The Associate Deans are selected by the Dean with faculty input and report to the Dean. Faculty members work with the respective associate deans and report to the associate dean for the program in which most of their work is concentrated. Program coordinators work with faculty members and report to the Associate Dean for their program. They work to ensure smooth coordination for the RN-BSN, MSN, and DNP programs. Emphasis area coordinators in the MSN program provide leadership for the specialty emphasis areas in that program. The Director of Continuing Education and Outreach serves as a liaison between the College of Nursing and the Division of Continuing Education for the credit and noncredit courses and programs provided on campus, at outreach sites, and online. The Associate Dean for Research reports to the Dean and fosters development, implementation, and close out of research projects within the College. All activities are coordinated between the Dean, associate deans, Administrative Manager, and Fiscal Affairs Specialist through the Administrative Team of the College to ensure smooth integration and articulation of academic and fiscal affairs throughout the College's programs. The Dean's Council meets monthly and includes members of the Administrative Team, program coordinators, the chair of the Faculty Association, and a staff representative.
Student advising and support are provided by the College's Student Services office. Also appointed by and reporting directly to the Dean are the Administrative Assistant to the Dean, the Special Assistant to the Dean, and the Fiscal Affairs Specialist for the College.
The Coordinator of the Nursing Lab is responsible for the management of the nursing arts laboratory. This individual is appointed by the Dean and works closely with the associate deans, reporting to the Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program. That individual is supported by an Assistant Coordinator of the Nursing Lab.
