Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Program Committee
Membership: All full and part-time faculty members teaching in any of the BSN Program options (Traditional, Accelerated, or BSN Completion); Student Services Advisors working with BSN program options.
Chair: Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program
Functions:
- Coordinate implementation of the BSN curricula as developed and approved by faculty;
- Recommend changes in admission and progression policies to the College of Nursing Student Affairs Committee;
- Recommend curricular changes to the College of Nursing Curriculum Committee;
- Evaluate national trends in clinical practice, AACN Baccalaureate Essentials (1996), and standards of practice for professional nursing and ensure that the BSN program goals and outcomes remain consistent with the national Essentials (AACN, 1996), professional nursing standards, and Missouri State Board of Nursing Minimum Standards (2007);
- Ensure coordination of BSN curricula across courses;
- Monitor results of standardized testing programs to determine any changes needed in admission and progression standards, or curricula; and,
- Monitor program outcomes as delineated in the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan and recommend changes in curriculum or policies as necessary.
Meeting frequency: At least twice each semester, or as determined by the Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program and faculty.
Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Admissions Subcommittee
Membership: Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, three faculty members teaching in the BSN program Student Services Advisors for the BSN Program,. Faculty members are selected by acclamation from those who volunteer for the subcommittee.
Chair: Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program.
Functions:
- Review applications to the BSN program options (Traditional, Accelerated, and BSN Completion) and make admission decisions based upon published criteria approved by faculty.
Meeting frequency: Annually for admissions in Fall, Winter, and Summer.
Masters of Science in Nursing Program Committee
Membership: All full and part-time faculty members teaching in any of the MSN Program Specialty Courses; Student Services Advisors working with MSN program specialty emphasis areas.
Chair: Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education.
Functions:
- Coordinate implementation of the MSN curricula as developed and approved by faculty;
- Recommend changes in admission and progression policies to the College of Nursing Student Affairs Committee;
- Recommend curricular changes to the College of Nursing Curriculum Committee;
- Evaluate national trends in advanced clinical practice, AACN MSN Essentials (1996),NTF Guidelines (2008), and standards of practice for advanced practice nursing specialties and ensure that the MSN program goals and outcomes remain consistent with the national Essentials and advanced practice nursing standards;
- Ensure coordination of MSN curricula across courses and consistency across specialty tracks;
- Monitor results of standardized testing programs and board certification results to determine any changes needed in admission and progression standards, or curricula; and,
- Monitor program outcomes as delineated in the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan and recommend changes in curriculum or policies as necessary.
Meeting frequency: At least twice each semester, or as determined by the Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, and faculty.
Nurse Practitioner Faculty Subcommittee
Membership: Nurse Practitioner Specialty Emphasis Area Coordinators; all full and part-time faculty members teaching in any of the NP Specialty Emphasis Areas (FNP, PNP, WHNP, ANP, NNP); Student Services Advisor working with MSN NP Specialty Emphasis Area students.
Chair: Nurse Practitioner faculty member, elected for a two year term by the nurse practitioner faculty members.
Functions:
- Coordinate implementation of the NP curricula as developed and approved by NP and MSN faculty as a whole;
- Recommend changes in admission and progression policies related to the NP Specialty Tracks to the MSN Program Committee;
- Recommend NP curricular changes to the MSN Program Committee;
- Evaluate national trends in advanced practice nursing, AACN MSN Essentials (1996), NTF guidelines for NP programs(2008), and standards of practice for advanced practice nursing specialties and ensure that the MSN program goals and outcomes remain consistent with the national Essentials (AACN, 1996), advanced practice nursing standards, and NONPF criteria;
- Ensure coordination of NP curricula across courses and consistency across specialty tracks;
- Monitor results of standardized testing programs and board certification results to determine any changes needed in admission and progression standards, or curricula;
- Monitor program outcomes as delineated in the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan and recommend changes in curriculum or policies as necessary.
Meeting frequency: At least twice each semester, or as determined by the Chair of the Nurse Practitioner Faculty Subcommittee.
Masters of Science in Nursing Admissions Subcommittee
Membership: Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, faculty members teaching in the MSN program and Student Services Advisors for the MSN Program.
Chair: Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education.
Functions:
- Review applications to the MSN program options and make admission decisions based upon published criteria approved by faculty; and,
- Recommend MSN program applicants for admission to the Dean of the Graduate School.
Meeting frequency: Annually for admissions in Fall, Winter, and Summer.
Doctoral Program Committee
Membership: All full and part-time faculty members teaching in the PhD in Nursing program or the DNP program.
Co-chairs: Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education and Associate Dean for the PhD Program and Research.
Functions:
- Coordinate implementation of the PhD and DNP curricula as developed and approved by faculty;
- Recommend changes in admission and progression policies to the Graduate School;
- Recommend curricular changes to the College of Nursing Curriculum Committee;
- Evaluate national trends in preparation of nurse scientists, the AACN Indicators of Quality in Research-Focused Doctoral Programs (2001), the AACN Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (2006), and incorporate as appropriate into curricular and programmatic changes;
- Ensure coordination of the PhD and DNP curricula and consistency across students; and,
- Monitor student outcomes as delineated on the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan and recommend changes in curriculum or policies as necessary.
Meeting frequency: At least twice each semester, or as determined by the Associate Deans for Advanced Nursing Education and the PhD Program and Research, and faculty.
Scholarship Committee
Membership: Associate Deans, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, at least one faculty member representing each academic program (BSN, MSN, DNP, PhD), Student Services Advisors, Fiscal Affairs Specialist (ex officio).
Chair: Associate Dean
Functions:
- Reviews applications for College of Nursing scholarships and makes recommendations to the Dean or appropriate body for scholarship recipients; and,
- Coordinates reviews of scholarship applications across scholarship and financial aid programs administered by the College of Nursing.
Meeting frequency: Annually prior or as needed.

Dean's Council
Membership: Dean, Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program, Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, Associate Dean for the PhD Program and Research, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, Director of Continuing Education and Outreach, Associate Dean for Research, Coordinator of the RN-BSN Program, BSN Traditional Coordinator, BSN Accelerated Coordinator, MSN Program Coordinator, DNP Program Coordinator, Chair of the College of Nursing Faculty Association, Student Services representative, Administrative Assistant to the Dean, Fiscal Affairs Specialist and College Administrative Manager.
Chair: Dean
Functions:
- Provide a mechanism for communication across programs and academic support areas;
- Ensure coordination of College of Nursing activities in support of mission and goal achievement;
- Advise the Dean on matters of College of Nursing administrative policies and procedures;
- Keep apprised of strategic opportunities and recommend those that should be pursued; and,
- Focus on the needs of the College as a whole and recommend areas for improvement.
Meeting Frequency: Monthly
Administrative Team
Membership: Dean, Associate Dean for the Undergradute Program, Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, Associate Dean for Research, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, Administrative Assistant to the Dean, College Administrative Manager, and Fiscal Affairs Specialist.
Chair: Dean
Functions:
- Ensure day to day coordination of College of Nursing administrative activities, including hiring, scheduling, and responding to internal and external requests; and,
- Provide a venue for analyzing and resolving administrative dilemmas within the College.
Meeting frequency: Weekly or as needed.
Dean's Student Advisory Council
Purpose:
The purpose of the Dean's Student Advisory Council is to provide a place where nursing students in all programs can give input to College of Nursing administrators (dean, associate deans, assistant dean, directors, coordinators) about student interests, concerns, and suggestions in a forum that is open, collegial, and focused on continuous improvement.
Membership:
Members include two representatives of each program and option within the College. Members are volunteers solicited by the Dean's office to participate in the Council on an annual academic year basis. Student members are invited to continue throughout their academic programs if they wish. Two students represent each semester of the clinical pre-licensure BSN option, the accelerated pre-licensure BSN option, and the RN-BSN completion option, and, two students represent the MSN program and two students represent the PhD program. Administrative members are ex officio and include the Dean, Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program, Associate Dean for Advanced Nursing Education, Associate Dean for Research, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, Coordinator of the RN-BSN Option, BSN Traditional Coordinator, BSN Accelerated Coordinator, MSN Program Coordinator, and DNP Program Coordinator.
Chair: Dean
Functions:
- Provide a mechanism for sharing the student experience with College administrators and a route for suggesting strategies for continuous improvement related to co-curricular student support;
- Provide input on broad student concerns and issues related to learning that cut across courses and would not normally be matters that should be taken to individual course faculty members;
- Assess implementation of changes recommended by the Dean's Student Advisory Council;
- Serve as a liaison between the Student Nurses' Association and the Black Student Nurses' Association and College of Nursing administration;
- Recommend strategies for continually improving communication mechanisms with students and the College; and,
- Recommend strategies for addressing selected topics of concern, such as recruitment, retention, financial aid, and enhancing diversity.
Meeting frequency: Monthly during the nine month academic year.
College of Nursing Leadership Council
Membership: Members are invited to represent a broad array of the College's external communities of interest, including nursing executives, the health care industry, business leaders, nonprofit leaders, consumers, and the Dean of the College of Nursing.
Chair: Appointed by the Chancellor
Functions:
- Advise the College through the Dean;
- Assist with communication to the various constituencies; and,
- Assist with fund development and College advancement.
Meeting frequency: Three times per year.
College of Nursing Search Committee
Membership: At least four faculty members appointed by the Dean representing each program and both tenure and nontenure track faculty; Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs; at least one staff member, College Administrative Manager, and one student.
Chair: Faculty chair appointed by the Dean.
Functions:
- Collaborate with the faculty and Dean to finalize faculty position job descriptions, recruitment plans and advertisements for vacant positions;
- Complete OEO job analyses and secure necessary approvals from the Provost and the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity;
- Solicit nominations for vacant faculty positions and invite nominees to consider applying;
- Actively recruit potential candidates for vacant faculty positions using the recruitment plans approved by the Office of Equal Opportunity;
- Select finalists for vacant faculty positions and obtain approval from OEO to bring candidates to campus for interviews;
- Arrange interview schedules for faculty candidates;
- Conduct interviews and collect feedback from faculty, staff, students, and administrators involved in the interview process;
- Secure references on finalists and letters from College APT committee for tenure track candidates;
- Recommend candidates to the Dean; and,
- Submit final paperwork to the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity.
Meeting frequency: Monthly or as needed to complete faculty searches.
