Dr. Segura received her BSN from UMSL while also playing collegiate volleyball at UMSL. After graduating with her BSN, she worked for a local Level 1 trauma center as an Intensive Care Nurse. She then worked as a Specialty Float Pool Nurse, responding to medical emergencies and working on intensive care units, medical floors, psychiatry unit, endoscopy lab, cardiac catheterization lab, and the emergency room as needed based on hospital staffing. Dr. Segura better understood her passion for Primary Care medicine after working as a nurse at a local University Student Health Center. Dr. Segura returned to her Alma Mater, UMSL, where she achieved her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in the area of Family Nurse Practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, she has practiced as a Primary Care Provider at multiple local medical centers. She specializes in disease prevention, health promotion, and obesity medicine.
Dr. Segura notes she has a passion to teach the next generation of nurses and advanced practice nurses to help prepare them in the best way possible to clinically reason, provide appropriate clinical judgement, and practice with confidence and competence within the healthcare community. She notes that her goal is to create an environment, as a transformational leader, that will foster learning and support the transformation of “students” into “practicing professional nurses”.
