Alicia Hutchings, PhD, RN, CNE

Early in her nursing career Alicia knew the way she could make the greatest impact in healthcare was to educate competent, caring, and compassionate nurses. Academia has been her area of practice since 2007, where she started at Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis. From there, Alicia made the journey to Oklahoma City University, teaching primarily in undergraduate education, expanding her knowledge and expertise in curriculum, teaching excellence, and university service. In 2016, she returned to the St. Louis area and joined the UMSL faculty. As an Associate Teaching Professor, Alicia has had the opportunity to teach in both undergraduate and graduate nursing courses, assist with programmatic development, and evaluation. In 2019, Alicia joined Academic Affairs as a faculty fellow helping to guide the 5-year review process.

Alicia’s graduate degrees MSN and PhD both have an emphasis in nursing education. When she is not in teaching, Alicia is a wife and a mother of two children. Life is busy, chaotic, and fun!

Research Interests

Alicia's research interest surround nursing education and the nursing profession. Nursing education interest include enhancing student engagement, innovative teach strategies, institutional research, and student motivation. Nursing profession research includes mentorship of new faculty.
