DNP Application Process

All applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Complete the UMSL Graduate Application
  • Complete the Nursing Supplemental Application Form. You must complete UMSL’s Graduate Application before you are able to access the Nursing Supplemental Application Form.
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities
  • $50 nonrefundable application fee
  • Current CV/resume
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • An essay, which should respond to the following attributes:
    • Introduction-Include professional background, but not personal identifiers such as name, place of employment, etc., and the population track of interest (i.e., leadership, FNP, AGNP, etc.). (250 word max.)
    • Learning-Describe how you think about and pursue learning in your profession. (250 word max.)
    • Diversity-Discuss a nursing practice experience that changed or impacted your understanding of diversity and why. (250 word max.)
    • Meaningfulness-Describe an activity that brings meaning to your life. (250 word max.)
    • Leadership-Describe direct or indirect leadership experiences you have had. (250 word max.)
    • Final summary
  • A copy of your Advanced Nursing Practice Document of Recognition (if applicable)
  • A copy of your National Advanced Practice Certificate (if applicable)

Application Deadline for Fall Enrollment: Early acceptance: January 15.  After January 15, rolling admissions until class is full.

International Students: Given the time required to process international applications, all international applicants must apply by the early acceptance deadline of January 15 for admission consideration.  Applications submitted after January 15 will be considered for admission in the same or subsequent academic year, depending on the processing time needed.
