Steps Required for Department

To create and post a position with Career Services, departments should complete the Student Worker Request Form. Once the form is submitted, the position will be reviewed and then posted.

  • Please call or email Career Services with questions.

The Student Worker Request Kuali Form is currently under maintenance. Once complete, we will replace the Google Form with the Kuali Form.

Before hiring, determine if the student is in any other active positions, multiple positions could affect how many hours a week they can work.

  • The student can only work a total of 20 hours per week, even if they hold more than one student employment position.

  • In some cases, students can work up to 28 hours per week. A written agreement must first be obtained from the supervisor.

Please note that Stripes Shared Services now requires an effective hire date of at least 10 business days out from the time the request for hire is submitted.

Check the Job Code Details page to verify that the student is eligible for a student title.

Please inform your student hire to complete any additional forms designated by the department related to the work they will be doing.

It is recommended that you work with your Business Manager before submitting the ePAF for a new student hire. The submission should be sent to Stripes, with any additional completed department designated forms along with the UMSystem Hire Form.

HR Processing - UMSystem Hire Form

Check out the Student Hiring Manual for detailed instructions on submitting a student ePAF.

After the ePAF has been submitted by the business manager and hiring department, inform your student hire that they will receive an email from Peoplesoft requiring them to fill out information in myHR.

Once preboarding has been completed in myHR, the student must submit valid I-9 identification documents to NER online.

If your student hire would prefer to submit their documents in-person, they must email the UMSLHR inbox to request an in-person I-9 appointment. You can find more information on our In-person I-9 webpage.

Please note that after the I-9 supporting documents are presented to NER, the hiring process could take anywhere between two to five business days to complete. Students will then have full access to myHR. Percipio access will be available 24 hours after that.

Students are not authorized to work until these steps have been completed.

The student can only work a total of 20 hours per week, even if they hold more than one student employment position.
