Write Out is a free two-week celebration of writing, making, and sharing inspired by the great outdoors. It is a public invitation from National Writing Project to get out, create, and explore national parks and other public spaces. The goal is to connect and learn through place-based writing and sharing using the common hashtag #writeout.
Gateway Writing Project values the inclusion of spaces during the writing experience. Place-based writing invites writers to be influenced by an environment or location with the notion that places can impact our thinking, our perspectives, our engagement, our purpose, and even our ownership of the writing.
Research has shown that play has the power to enrich student learning by reducing their anxiety, increasing their confidence, and expanding their motivation to learn.
Gateway Writing Project works to inspire young writers to engage in place-based writing each fall. GWP celebrates Write Out, a two-week invitation from the National Writing Project to step outside the doors of our classrooms, homes, and workplaces to write and create. The goal is to be inspired by the world around us and to connect and learn through place-based writing and sharing.
How can you Give students the message that reading, writing, and thinking go with them no matter where they are?
Place-based writing is fundamentally basic - yes, just leave the classroom! A new space is an opportunity for observation, description, and reflection that is not as evident when in a commonly visited space.
Place has an ongoing and lasting impact on the human experience, including how we see the world.
Let Us Design a Place-based Writing Experience for you!
Consider Inviting GWP to Your Campus for Write Out or any other place-based writing experience.
