2011 Volunteer of the Month Recipients
December 2011
Charellise Coleman
"Charellise is an outstanding volunteer in our office who has been reliable, dedicated and extremely helpful. Most recently, she has researched and compiled a thorough list of grants/donors who may be able to financially assist the office with event and outreach costs, in addition to helping us with promotional materials. Charellise also has been an essential volunteer for the MLK Day Celebration for many years."

Ashley Jones
"UMSL Month of Giving was a success because of the behind-the-scenes
work of several volunteers, including Ashley Jones. Ashley works incredibly fast and is a joy to be around. She is both focused and fun. She can accomplish
more in one four hour period than most could do in a full day. Ashley makes
a point to include volunteering in her busy schedule with school, work,
family and friends. She is one-of-a-kind!
Patricia Zahn - 2011 UMSL Charitable Giving Campaign Chair
"Ashley Jones deserves the Volunteer of the Month nomination. I have
worked with her on many volunteer assignments, including the
United Way mailing, and I have noticed first-hand the energy and
enthusiasm she brings to a room. Of all of the volunteers I have worked
with, she is one of the most productive and I myself have learned a
few tips from her. For all these reasons, I hope to continue to work with
her and share our volunteer experiences in the future.

Thomas Reh
"Tom is the person we can always count on to come through in a pinch!
He is reliable, responsible, and a pleasure to work with. Mostly, it is clear
he loves the Mercantile Library and its collections. Tom had no docent
experience when he started volunteering, but he put in a tremendous
effort to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to convey the Mercantile
and UMSL stories to our visitors. Tom is a great docent, a wonderful person
and a superb representative for the Mercantile Library."
Julie Dunn-Morton - The Mercantile Library

During her time here Alexis wore many hats and worked in several areas of the University. Here’s what employees had to say about her:
"Alexis was a big help and very professional. A wonderful volunteer! She did an amazing job! She was so friendly and willing to do anything we needed her to do. She was consistently pleasant, tackling all assignments with dedication and a smile. A tremendous volunteer and a trustworthy individual. Alexis will be an asset wherever she goes."

Janet Tucker
"Efficiency, commitment, and consistently hard work are the key character traits Jan brings to her volunteering. I could not ask for a more dedicated volunteer. She really goes above and beyond. Jan has even taken work home on several occasions! She is a joy to have in the office - always kind, cheerful and in a good frame of mind for work. She needs very little guidance and I trust her work implicitly. I hope this relationship continues for a long time!"

Ernest Osaghae
"Ernest came to help me organize my Kids Voting materials and clean out my storage room for another group--not only was Ernest a great worker, dependable, with a terrific attitude, but Ernest went above and beyond regular volunteer duties. When we were taking trash to one of the large dumpsters behind the GSB, my car keys with electronic starter, fell into the dumbster which was full of water at the bottom. (The Dumpster is at least 8-10 feet deep.) As I panicked, Ernest lowered himself into the dumpster and went looking through the water searching for my keys. He finally found them in the corner of a cardboard box--undamaged from the water surrounding the box. He then hoisted himself back up with car keys in hand. Ernest indeed is my hero and very desering of volunteer of the month. As a side note, it costs about $450 to replace the electronic starter key--I can't tell you how much Ernest's efforts both "on & off the field" meant to me. He's a great person - I wish I could keep him as a volunteer all year long."
Sandy Diamond - Kid's Voting

"Susan is always prompt and ready to go above and beyond daily tasks and projects. She always walks in with a big smile on her face and a positive attitude. She has become a huge asset to Gallery Visio by using her skills to organize files and archives so the gallery can run more efficiently. We are very happy to have such a motivated and enthusiastic volunteer."

Margo Harris
Linda Mitchell
"I am recommending Linda Mitchell and Margo Harris as Volunteers of the Month for their exceptional service at the Touhill Performing Arts Center. During the April 22nd storms and tornado these ladies were at the Touhill volunteering on an UMSL student production. When the call was made to move the audience to safe shelter these two ladies got the chance to implement a safety protocol. They both established themselves as guides to move the audience, kept the patrons calm and orderly through their own calm and confident demeanor, kept the managers informed of patron needs and coordinated the departure of over 100 people in building blackout conditions. The Touhill received written and verbal complements about the calm and safe manner in which the staff and volunteers handled the whole evening and these two volunteers were critical to the success of that safety situation.
Linda has been volunteering at the Touhill since September of 2010; Margo has been with us since February of 2004. Both are shining examples of individuals who excel at their volunteer positions."
Fran Ventimiglia - Touhill Performing Arts Center

Katherine Kravitz
"Katherine is fabulous! She is extremely dependable, punctual and always comes in with a desire to work and be impactful. There is no task too big or little for her to do. She does not seek to draw attention to herself, but quietly get things done! She is definitely an exemplary model for the Volunteer Services."
Janice Harris - Center for Truama Recovery

October of 2010. His attention to detail and tenacity is commendable and
his love of books and libraries is quite evident. The library is lucky to have
