UMSL Faculty/instructors teaching online are required to take the Online Teaching Certification Seminar.
The seminar supports the UM System-wide requirement that instructors teaching online courses be certified before teaching online, and Online Teaching Recertification meets the requirement that recertification occur every five years. Join over 3,500 certified instructors in the UM System to deliver quality online learning experiences.
This asynchronous seminar is 100% online in Canvas. Sessions are offered in a six-week course. The six-week sessions have weekly due dates, and content is arranged in modules. Topics include:
- Teaching at UMSL and Setting Your Course Goals
- Alignment of Course and Module Objectives
- Building Instructional Materials and Assessments in Student-Centered Online Course Design
- Creating Varied and Inclusive Modes of Engagement, Interaction, and Assessment Through UM System-Supported Technologies
- Peer Review and Feedback
This teaching certification was developed by instructional designers at Missouri Online and meets training needs at UMSL. The seminar has been refined by UMSL. Additionally, the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) has endorsed the seminar and given it "exemplary endorsement."
