Positions
The Department of Biology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions. Expertise in the Department ranges broadly from molecular biology to evolutionary phylogenetics and community ecology. Our faculty and our doctoral and masters degree programs are internationally recognized. We have strong local ties with the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Saint Louis Zoo, Washington University, St. Louis University, and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. The Department houses the Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center, established to promote international research, particularly in tropical regions. The Department is also associated with the UMSL Center for Neurodynamics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in an appropriate discipline with evidence of high- quality research. The successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program and participate in teaching and advising of undergraduate and graduate students. ANIMAL BEHAVIOR (Assistant Professor) -- Research focus is open, but could include observational and experimental approaches that clarify the molecular and physiological bases of behavioral traits, their functional ecology and evolution, their consequences for multispecies interactions and social integration, and related areas. ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY (Assistant or Associate Professor) -- Research focus is open, but could include comparative physiology, immunology, endocrinology, metabolism, functional ecology, host-pathogen interactions, adaptation to extreme environments, and related areas. EVOLUTION AND ECOLOGY (Assistant or Associate Professor) -- Research focus is open, but could include genetics of adaptation, phylogenetic aspects of diversification, population abundance and distribution, or community interactions and co-evolution. We are particularly seeking applicants with strong analytical, computational, phylogenetic, and/or statistical skills. Teaching may include undergraduate courses in evolution, biometry, or GIS.
