When I was about 8 years old, I started watching birds, and as my interest
grew, it led me into ecology. I had the opportunity to participate in
field research during high school, and I continued this during my undergraduate
years. I have been able to work in northeast Ohio forests, the Missouri
Ozarks, Nicaragua, and Arizona. My research interests focus on the structuring
and dynamics of communities and food webs, with an emphasis on ecological
roles of birds. I plan to investigate how bird predation on herbivorous
arthropods affects oaks and the arthropod community in Missouri forests.
