For four decades, the UMSL Bridge Program has helped students and families across the St. Louis region transform aspirations into opportunities and possibilities into pathways. Founded in 1986 under the visionary leadership of Chancellor Marguerite Ross Barnett, Bridge was built on a commitment to educational access, equity, and excellence—ensuring that students have the resources, relationships, and support needed to pursue a future beyond what they may have imagined.
Today, that vision lives on through our year-round commitment to academic enrichment, college and career readiness, mentoring, leadership development, and family engagement. Since 2003, Bridge has maintained a 100% high school graduation and postsecondary matriculation rate. The 2026 Bridge senior class earned acceptances to more than 120 colleges and universities and received more than $15 million in scholarship offers. These achievements reflect more than academic success; they demonstrate what becomes possible when students are empowered, families are supported, and access is matched with opportunity.
Bridge is more than a program—it is a lasting legacy of relationships, opportunity, and transformation. The impact extends beyond individual achievements to the families, schools, institutions, and communities strengthened by each student’s success.
