Writing support for UMSL alumni

Once a Triton, always a Triton. UMSL alumni are an important part of our writing community. We offer one-on-one feedback to help you write clearly and with confidence. UMSL alumni visit the Writing Center for many reasons:

  • Resumes, CVs, and cover letters
  • Personal statements / scholarship essays
  • Writing samples / essays for graduate programs
  • Application writing (short answers, statements of purpose, bios)
  • Creative projects (stories, essays, poems, submissions)

How it works: The Writing Center is appointment-based. We offer appointments on campus and online (Live Chat and Feedback via Email).

How the Writing Center best helps alumni:
  • We help you identify priorities in your writing (purpose, audience, organization, evidence, style)
  • We offer feedback and strategies tailored to your document and goals

The Writing Center cannot:
  • Write the document for you
  • Provide copy-editing or proofreading services
  • Work with non-UMSL students on coursework from other institutions.

FAQs

Does it cost anything?

No—Writing Center consultations are free for the UMSL community, including alumni.

Do I need a draft?

No. You can come with notes, an outline, or an early draft, or nothing at all. At stage of writing is welcome.

Can you just proofread it?

The Writing Center will help you prioritize revisions and strengthen editing habits, but we don’t offer proofreading-only or “fix it for me” services.
