About
Kate (Dwiggins) Watt joined the English Department faculty in 2013 after previously teaching at the Pierre Laclede Honors College and a number of other St. Louis area institutions. Kate teaches a variety of general education, online, and creative writing courses, including First Year Composition, Junior-Level Writing, Business Writing, Introduction to Creative Writing, and poetry/fiction workshops. She is the current faculty adviser for the student-run literary magazine, Litmag, and teaches corresponding courses on editing and publishing. She is one of several English facutly liaisons serving the UMSL Advanced Credit Program.
Her other academic interests include comedy as rhetoric, gender studies and sexuality, nonfiction writing and women's memoir, urban studies, composition theory, online education and teaching with technology. An accomplished poet, Kate's poems have appeared in a wide range of literary journals, including the Crab Orchard Review, Atlantic Pacific Press, Apalachee Review, China Grove, Blue Collar Review and Barely South Review. Kate also serves as an Editor and Poetry Reviewer for the Great Lakes Review, a literary journal publishing fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and photography from and about the Great Lakes region.
