Sarah Kiser (they/them) is a soon-to-be-published novelist who writes fairy tale-inspired fantasy with a bent toward the gothic, the macabre, and the romantic. They are currently pursuing their MFA and look forward to honing their craft as a writer and as an instructor, working with students to explore themselves through writing as creative, knowledgeable, and autonomous humans. Some of their academic areas of interest (which inevitably bleed into their fiction) include gender and sexuality, other-than-human nature, madness, disability, monsters and monstrosity, borders, the abject, and the ways they intersect. At UMSL, Sarah works in UMSL's Writing Center and with First-Year Composition courses.
Their debut novel,
Hunt the Ever Wild, about a wizard with student debt and a cursed huntress who team up to catch a phoenix but can't split the prize, is being published by Angry Robot on June 23, 2026.
