Instructions: Listed below are those scholarships specifically available to Political Science majors only. For all scholarships please visit the Student Financial Aid website and apply for scholarships through Academic Works.

Scholarship applications for the 2021-22 academic year are closed. The deadline for 2022-23 scholarships is April 1, 2022.

The applications for next round of Political Science scholarships will open on October 1, 2021.

Evelyn and Stuart Symington Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding Political Science major at the junior level or above (must have completed a minimum of 12 hours of political science coursework). The amount of award depends on the judgment of the Department’s Undergraduate Committee and the availability of funds. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester. Minimum credit hours enrollment at UMSL the semester the scholarship is used varies depending on the award amount. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester.

Jan Frantzen Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding Political Science major at the junior level or above (must have completed a minimum of 12 hours of political science coursework). The amount of award depends on the judgment of the Department’s Undergraduate Committee and the availability of funds. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester. Minimum of 9 credit hours enrollment at UMSL the semester the scholarship is used. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester.

Political Science Alumni Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding Political Science major at the junior level or above (must have completed a minimum of 12 hours of political science coursework). The award is made in the spring for the fall semester. Minimum of 9 credit hours enrollment at UMSL the semester the scholarship is used. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester.

Politics in America Scholarship
This scholarship is supported by a gift from Professor Lance T. LeLoup, a former member of the Department of Political Science. The award is for an outstanding Political Science major, particularly one who has excelled in the study of American politics. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester.

Bruce T. Sommer Scholarship in Political Science
This scholarship is named for civic leader and UMSL political science alumnus, Bruce Sommer. The scholarship award will be given to one or two full-time undergraduate student/s majoring in Political Science. Through extra-curricular activities, recipients must demonstrate a strong commitment to public service, community collaboration and leadership. They must demonstrate financial need as determined by having a valid FAFSA on record in the Financial Aid Office. MInimum of 12 credit hours enrollment at UMSL the semester the scholarship is used. The award is made in the spring for the fall semester. This scholarship is renewable.
