STudent parent success stories

Undoubtedly, being both a student and a parent poses unique challenges and circumstances. Despite this, student parents persist and overcome obstacles in their pursuit toward a college degree - for themselves and for their families. Read on for stories of real UMSL student parents who know this first-hand, and get inspired to create your own student parent success story! 


UMSL is excited to announce funding through the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant to provide childcare assistance to eligible low-income student parents to use at the on-campus University Child Development Center or at another requested and approved child care facility. Access to childcare will allow eligible student parents to attend class, utilize campus resources, participate in extracurricular activities and receive academic support. Parent-family events, evening and Saturday care will also be offered throughout the academic year. We are now accepting applications for Fall 2021.

Kitchen Table talk
Kitchen Table Talk is a new virtual time for student parents to get together for conversation, discussion, learning, and a shared experience. This fall will be nothing short of new twists and turns and challenges to you as students and parents. Let's get connected and support each other! 

Drop in on the 2nd Tuesday or Wednesday each month at 2pm, starting September 8th. CLICK HERE for the zoom link you can use all semester.

Private lactation rooms offer a clean and secure environment for those who need to pump or nurse while on campus. Students can access these spaces with their student ID after registering. Additional tips and resources for identifying spaces are also available.

Student Advocacy & Care provides case management for students experiencing life issues, hardships, or unmet needs. Case managers help students identify resources they may need, and help them make community and campus connections to secure them. They provide assistance in applying for and navigating public assistance programs, including the Missouri Child Care Subsidy Program and SNAP.

The Office of Student Involvement provides a series of fun-filled and family-oriented events for UMSL students and their families throughout the academic year. These educating and entertaining programs are held once a month from September to April.
