Synergistic Activities
Based on my interaction with the HNTB Company engineering firm, which is designing a new bridge across the Mississippi River at St. Louis, I have published a pedagogical article on the physics of suspension bridges, B. In response to an article on pedagogical approaches to physics education, I have published a response briefly stating my pedagogical approach, B. J. Feldman," Comment on 'How do we know if we are doing a good job in physics teaching' ", American Journal of Physics 70, 471 (2002).
Based on my experience as a consultant in an automobile accident legal proceedings, I have published a pedagogical article describing the physics involved in this case, that could be used in any introductory physics class. From 1988 to 2001, I was Chairman of the small Committees Program, which is part of the American Physical Society's Committee on the International Freedom of Scientists. The small Committee Program adopts physicists from around the world whose human rights are being violated by their governments and pairs them up with physicists who wish to help them. I organized, coordinated, informed and disbanded over two hundred small Committees.
