B-163 Paramore Cotton Belt Scrapbook

ABSTRACT: The album assembled by the the wife of James Wallace Paramore includes information about the Cotton Belt Railroad.

SCOPE: Album spans the years 1882-1885 and has clippings attached to both sides of the pages.

EXTENT: Album with 28 pages and three additional clippings

HISTORY: The album covers the history of the construction of the rail lines that spanned from Saint Louis to Texas, called the Cotton Belt Route. James Wallace Paramore led the construction of said rail lines. In order to adapt to the physical challenges of the topography in the south and southwest, he created a narrow gauge rail system for these rail lines.

ACCESS: This collection can be viewed on-site in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the material may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition and other access restrictions. Information on conducting research with the archival collections of the Library, including current building hours and reading room policies, can be found on our Research page. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building on the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ north campus.
