Information Systems Department

Welcome to the Department of Information Systems!

We hope you take a minute and explore our excellent STEM* classified (CIP 52.1301) degree and certificate options at UMSL. Outstanding teachers, world-renowned researchers, small class sizes, and a commitment to student growth through experiential learning are what set us apart.

The Information Systems (IS) program is designed to prepare students for technical and managerial careers. Our curriculum incorporates leading edge technologies used in both public and private organizations. We build on a core business program to teach students the social and technical design, development, and implementation of state-of-the-art computer-based and web-based systems.

An IS student, ideally, will be fascinated by how information technology can contribute to an organization and how to make that solution a reality. The strength of an IS major lies in his/her ability to apply the knowledge of information systems and technology to help organizations compete more successfully in the marketplace or to streamline current operations.

The programs are enriched by advice from our advisory board and from our many mentors.
