In today’s economy, the job market – including graduate study – requires that candidates have applied experience in addition to academic exposure. Internships, whereby students gain “real world” experience by working in their major field of study, and/or other areas of interest, provide a direct link between academics and opportunities for employment.
For students of language and culture, internships provide hands-on exposure to industries such as translation, international relations, education, tourism, publishing, and more. Even if an internship is not directly tied to your major, it offers valuable insight into how your skills can be applied in various professional settings. Through real-world tasks, you’ll develop transferable skills, explore career paths, and potentially even secure a full-time position.
