Antionette Sterling is a senior academic advisor at the College of Business and an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education. She earned her doctorate in higher education from the University of Missouri in 2016, along with a master's degree in communication and a bachelor's degree in French from Missouri State University.
Antionette is passionate about student success and is dedicated to supporting students from all backgrounds, particularly first-generation college students. She possesses extensive knowledge of various advising constructs and theories, which she applies to promote student resiliency and foster a sense of belonging as students navigate their college experiences. Throughout her career, she has worked with first-time college students, first-generation students, adult learners, and graduate students, while teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
In addition to advising and teaching, Antionette is a member of NACADA and MACADA, professional organizations focused on academic advising. She has served on various professional committees at the university and is currently the President of the Black Faculty/Staff Association, a member of the Teaching Circle for part-time faculty, and a member of the nomination committee for retired faculty. Additionally, she has presented at various conferences.
In her spare time, Antionette enjoys history, attending museums and traveling, musical concerts, reading, and researching. With a strong interest in running and fitness, she hopes to inspire her students to stay active and cultivate a growth mindset.
