The 2014 Founders Dinner was a very special occasion for a member of the Class of 1988 and for the College of Optometry. Dr. Barbara W. Brown was recognized among five Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients at the Founders Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton on September 26, 2014.
Dr. Brown, a non-traditional student, started her undergraduate program at UMSL in 1980 after a career as a Radiologic Technician, as an Ultrasound Technician, and as a Dosimetrist.
She completed a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and mathematics minor, graduating with Latin Honors. In the fall of 1984, she started the Doctor of Optometry program as a member of the Class of 1988. Brown has experienced a long-time career as a self-employed optometrist in private practices in the area, including Rosen Optometry Associates, and Overland Optical Family Eyecare. In addition, Dr. Brown was a staff member in the College of Optometry serving as the College Advancement Officer, the Manager of Student and Special Services, and the Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions.
