The Gateway Scholarship Program has expanded!

If you’re a legal resident of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, you can receive in-state tuition as a new undergraduate student at the University of Missouri–St. Louis!

Starting in Fall 2025, The Gateway Scholarship Program will expand to students residing in the United States (all 50 states), Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. Under the program, students residing in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be eligible for the equivalent of in-state tuition rates.

Eligibility

All legal residents residing in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin qualify for the equivalent of UMSL’s in-state tuition rates for students new to UMSL. New undergraduate students must be pursuing their first bachelor's degree. All students must be degree-seeking.

Eligible students should be enrolled in at least:

  • 12 hours per term for undergraduate students
  • 1 hour per term for graduate students

Renewal Criteria

  • Undergraduate students must complete at least 12 credit hours per semester and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Graduate students must complete at least 1 credit hour per semester and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA

Enrolling at UMSL

All new students must complete UMSL's free online application. Your residency will automatically qualify you for the equivalent of in-state tuition if you live in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin
