The Gateway Scholarship Program has expanded!

The Gateway Scholarship Program is available for students residing in the 16 states neighboring Missouri: Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin who are new to UMSL. Under the program, students residing in the 16 states will be eligible for the equivalent of in-state tuition rates.

Starting in Fall 2024, the following states will also be included: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida

Eligibility

All legal residents of Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin qualify for the equivalent of UMSL’s in-state tuition rates for students new to UMSL. New undergraduate students must be pursuing their first bachelors degree.  All students must be degree seeking.

Eligible students should be enrolled in at least:

  • 12 hours per term for undergraduate students
  • 1 hour per term for graduate students
    • Gateway for newly enrolled Graduate students began in Spring 2023

Renewal Criteria

  • Undergraduate students must complete at least 12 credit hours per semester and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Graduate students must complete at least 1 credit hour per semester and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA

Enrolling at UMSL

All new students must complete UMSL's free online application. Your residency will automatically qualify you for the equivalent of in-state tuition if you live in Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas or Wisconsin.
