We know the transition to college can be difficult. You are not alone. New Student Programs is also committed in assisting new parents and family members to the Triton community. In order to make a smooth transition and to assist your student, we have specific resources and a separate parent and family orientation program.

LEARN about the educational opportunities available to your student.

ENGAGE in an overview of campus life.

DISCUSS timely topics with campus representatives.

SHARE questions and concerns with other family members.

Parent and Family Orientation 2024

As you can imagine, your student will be very busy during Orientation and Welcome. We have intentionally built in connections points for students and their families on Thursday, August 15 and Friday, August 16. We encourage you to say "see you later" to your student on Friday, August 16 after the evening New Student Convocation and Welcome Bash. Your student will be busy the rest of the weekend with limited free time and should be focusing on Orientation and Welcome events and preparing for the start of classes on Monday, August 19.

Parent and Family Summer Webinar Series

Thursday, July 25, 2024 @5:30 pm - Parent and Family Welcome and Orientation

Join the Office of New Student Programs and campus administrators as they provide family members with information, tips, and tricks to help support their students in achieving success while at UMSL. The session will communicate important family resources, strategies for supporting your student throughout their UMSL Experience, campus safety, policies and procedures, opening weekend and welcome programming and more!

Money Matters @5:30 pm, CST | Two Options: Wednesday, June 12, 2024  & Tuesday, July 30, 2024

As the academic year approaches and your first billing statements arrive, join the Office of Student Financial Services for this overview of Money Matters presentation. The brief overview of financial aid, scholarships, authorized access, how to pay your bill and more will be presented as well as time for general questions.

Parent & Family Move-In Reception: Thursday, August 15, 2024

New students will be assigned a specific move-in time on Thursday, August 15, 2024 for Oak Residence Hall. We encourage you to spend Move-In Day helping your student to settle into their residence hall room and complete off-campus shopping trips, if needed. The day will fly by quickly. Students will use their meal plan to eat dinner together in Provincial House Dining from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

We invite you to attend our Parent and Family Reception to socialize with campus leaders and other new parent and family members. It will be held at 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm in the Millennium Student Center, 3rd Floor, Century Rooms. Light appetizers and cold drinks will be provided.

Registration is free, but RSVP is appreciated for our count. We look forward to meeting you at UMSL! RSVP for all Parent and Family events by August 1, 2024 through your student's Triton Portal account.

UMSL Student Legacy Pinning Ceremony: Thursday, August 15, 2024

UMSL alumni parents, grandparents and family members of new students are invited to the Touhill Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. for an UMSL tradition, the Legacy Pinning Ceremony, to welcome new students into the University of Missouri-St. Louis family.

Be a part of this tradition, which honors past and present, and celebrates the ties that bind your family to ours. Dress is UMSL classy, and encourage you to wear your red and gold to show your Triton pride. This event is free. To guarantee your student receives a pin, please let us know you will be attending. Your student can RSVP themselves and guests in their Triton Portal account.

Parent and Family Orientation: Friday, August 16, 2024

Parents and families are invited to attend a formal presentation to learn and engage with our campus leaders, about the exciting opportunities happening at UMSL. Specifically, in the areas within academic student support and work force integration, student success, financial impact, alumni engagement, campus life experience, and faculty engagement.

You will have the opportunity to check-in, gather our parent and family welcome items, and provided a meal ticket to enjoy lunch in one of our main dining spaces, called the Nosh. Check-in and lunch will be begin at 11:00 am in the Millennium Student Center. Free parking will be available in Lot E. View campus map.

At 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm, the Parent and Family Orientation will be held in the Touhill Performing Arts Center which is next to the Millennium Student Center and will be the same location at the New Student Convocation that will begin at 4:00 pm.

Parent & Family Orientation will be during the same time as your student’s required academic college meeting. You will be able to reconnect with your student at the Welcome Bash, which follows the New Student Convocation ceremony.

Please have your student RSVP any parents, family members or guests under their Orientation section in the Triton Portal.

All the resources shared during Parent and Family Orientation will be made available online for families who are unable to attend. We also encourage parent and families to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter to stay connected and informed of important dates, campus events and headline articles.

 

New Student Convocation: Friday, August 16, 2024

Convocation is the official academic welcome to the University. Join students, faculty, and administrators at this memorable event as the Chancellor and Provost welcomes all new students and families to the university.

We invite families to attend our parent and family orientation session while your students are busy at their academic welcome sessions before heading to New Student Convocation.

Doors will open at 3:30 pm for parent and family seating. You will be able to reconnect with your student at the Welcome Bash, which follows the New Student Convocation and Class Photo.
