M-440: John Duxbury Sports Research Collection

SCOPE: The Duxbury Collection spans several decades of sports history and statistics. While most sports are represented in some form, the collection consists primarily of baseball and basketball subjects. The collection is a combination of published books, college catalogs, handmade statistic logs of teams and individual players, and some professional correspondence related to Duxbury's journalism career.

HISTORY: John Duxbury was a reporter based in Saint Louis, Missouri. His career began at The Sporting News, where he wrote a column titled "The Answer Man," before being hired onto the staff at the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch sports department. Duxbury wrote for the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch for 42 years until his retirement in 2011. During his career he belonged to the Baseball Writes Association of America.

Duxbury was noted among colleagues for his expansive knowledge of sports history and statistics, as well as a significant home library of sports books and handmade research notes from which he was able to draw his answers.

ACCESS: This is collection M-440. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays.
