Collection #5: ACF Correspondence Files
(Provenance Maintained) 23 Boxes S1 #1 1-12, S2 #1-11I
These files, purely administrative in content, come from the St. Charles "barn" and were samples from a much larger collection (still in the "barn") to show how ACF approached car building at a peak period in the late 1940's. At this time passenger, subway and freight car construction was being undertaken, all far more complex in nature than previously encountered, and subject (through no fault of the company) to delays in completion because of raw materials shortages. Most of this collection deals with construction of subway cars for New York.
