Kimberly Baldus is the Associate Dean of the Honors College and has served as a faculty member since 1997. She earned her PhD in English Literature from Northwestern University, studying the early novel, Gothic tales, and the printed versions of gossip that became best sellers.
She helped lead the development of the Honors College first-year experience courses, Cultural Traditions I and II, and also designed its peer mentor program. She has presented on those innovations at the National Collegiate Honors Council, and co-authored a chapter about creating successful Honors peer mentor programs.
Her commitment to providing high-impact learning experiences for Honors students has led her to create several presentations on the scholarship of teaching and learning, including a chapter on her seminar, “Papers, Publications and Presentations,” that provides students with the tools to develop conference presentations and journal articles. She has also served as chair of UMSL’s Teaching Effectiveness Taskforce.
Her current role includes supervising Honors faculty, developing events for the Cultural Traditions classes, and mentoring students in the Honors Portfolio class as they apply to graduate schools or search for jobs. She loves to hear the stories of their successes, and especially treasures hearing from alumni about how much they enjoyed being in Honors.
