Dr. Meuser on Sabbatical during Spring 2015 Term

Program Director, Dr. Tom Meuser, will pursue a research sabbatical at Washington University School of Medicine from 1/19/15 - 5/30/15. Long-time Gerontology faculty member, Dr. Shirley Porterfield, will serve as Interim Director of the Gerontology Program during his absence. All program related business, including course advising and new student interviews, will be managed by Dr. Porterfield. Dr. Meuser will continue to use his UMSL email account and check phone messages while away.


The Gerontology Program is partnering with Missouri CLAIM once again to offer The National Medicare Training on March 12-13, 2015. CLICK HERE for details and registration information. This 2-day, free program is designed for health and social service professionals and provides a detailed review of any and all Medicare policies and procedures. There will be a special emphasis this year on preventative care and the annual wellness visit. Download PDF Brochure.


We sponsor and co-sponsor various educational events throughout the year. We've offered programming in the past on life review in aging, narrative medicine, ethics in long-term care, the benefits of artistic pursuits in advancing age, health disparities in cognitiev aging, and a host of other topics. We are always open to co-sponsoring programs with community organzations and other academic institutions.
