Program News

6/15 - The UMSL Life Review Project and Gerontology Program are joining with the Friedman Center for Aging at Washington University, Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Better Family LIfe of St. Louis, and the St. Louis County Age Friendly Community Initiative (and other potential partners) to engage older African American residents in developing personal narratives concerning the events in Ferguson over the past year and larger issues of race and disparity. An internal grant from Washington University is funding this initial effort. Planning is just getting underway. Dr. Meuser hopes to engage students in the SP16 Life Review 6130 class in conducting interviews in this process. Questions?  Email Dr. Tom Meuser.

5/15 - The Gerontology Program received a $500 mini-grant from the Missouri Campus Compact to help us develop a new service learning opportunity with the St. Louis County Older Residents Program. Meetings are underway to plan this effort now. Our hope is to create a block of ongoing placements with CORP (beginning in their Transportation Program) to support graduate and undergraduate service learning in the future. Graduate student, Kelly Kocs, will participate in a pilot placement in Fall 2015 to help us vision and plan for how this might work in the future. This partnership is an outgrowth of Dr. Meuser's participation in the St. Louis County Age Friendly Community Planning Initiaitive over the past two years. Questions?  Email Dr. Tom Meuser.
