Edward Jarka, O.D., M.S.
Dr. Jarka attended the Illinois College of Optometry from 1980 to 1984 during which time he received a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in microbiology from Western Illinois University in 1982 and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1984.
Dr. Jarka has pursued a wide variety of clinical and research opportunities. Clinically he has experience in almost every mode of optometric practice including private practice, large multi-disciplinary group practice, commercial practice, private OD/MD group practice, hospital-based practice at a Veterans Administration Hospital and has participated in on-call rotation at a community hospital. Dr. Jarka’s research background includes research and development at a large contact lens manufacturer as well as the clinical and translational research projects that he has developed while at the university.
Dr. Jarka joined the faculty of UM-St. Louis in 2003. He has served as clinic coordinator and as instructor and coordinator of the ocular disease and pharmacology courses. Now, most of his time at the university is involved in clinical and translational research in ocular surface diseases. He has a special interest in regenerative medicine techniques as it applies to the ocular surface.
