The College of Optometry from time-to-time has openings for part-time faculty positions. These include:
- Clinical attending at one or more of the Center for Eye Care locations
- Adult primary care
- Pediatrics/binocular vision
- Contact Lenses
- Low Vision
- Eye Health Management
- Seminar courses
- Problem-based Learning (1st year curriculum)
- Ocular Assessment (3rd year curriculum)
- Didactic courses
The primary purpose of the position is to provide didactic and clinical instruction in related courses; clinical teaching and patient care within a variety of settings including community health care centers. The positions require a commitment to working with diverse student and community populations. Faculty who hold such a position should be willing to explore alternative teaching styles in the classrooms such as learner-centered and case-based approaches.
Essential tasks that must be performed:
- Instruct students in clinical care and/or didactic courses
- Perform patient care
- Provide leadership & professional and community service
Patient care and clinically related positions require a Doctor of Optometry degree from an ACOE-accredited school or college of optometry and a license to practice in Missouri and/or Illinois; completion of an ACOE-accredited Residency or equivalent amount of professional patient care experience; and a sincere commitment to optometric education, community service and patient care in a variety of environments associated with an academic health center. Non-clinical didactic courses require a PhD and/or an OD; post-doctoral research and/or residency training or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
The individual holding this position will be expected to perform these duties in a professional manner and to abide by the Collected Rules and Regulations of the University Systems. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic and Clinical Programs of the College.
