UM Vision Benefits - FAQ

 

glassesWEB Beginning in 2007, the University of Missouri is offering an additional option for vision benefits through Vision Service Plan (VSP). Details of the plan may be found in your 2007 employee benefits enrollment materials and Vision.pdf.

This brief communication is directed to our UM-St. Louis colleagues in order to address frequently asked questions about the new option.

If I enroll in the new plan can I continue to be seen in the College of Optometry?

--Yes, the faculty of the Center for Eye Care are participating providers for the new vision plan at each of our three center locations -- campus, central west end, adn the metro east.

If I do not enroll in the new VSP option, may I continue to use the existing Center for Eye Care faculty, staff and retiree Vision Services Agreement?

--Yes, as we have in the past, the Center for Eye Care will continue to offer a Vision Services Agreement for eligible faculty, staff, retirees and their dependents. (Details may be found below*)

If I enroll in the new VSP option may I also use the Center for Eye Care Vision Services Agreement? --Those enrolled in the VSP program may use the VSP Vision Benefits Plan and/or the Center for Eye Care Vision Services Agreement. Our staff will help you decide which option is best suited for your individual needs at the time of your visit. You may also use the Center for Eye Care Vision Services Agreement for professional services and materials fees that are not covered by the VSP Vision Benefits Plan (20% reduction on materials after VSP Vision Benefits are exhausted; non-covered professional services and office procedures 50% reduction).

Employees who do not enroll in the new VSP option continue to be eligible for the Center for Eye Cares Vision Services Agreement*. Those who do enroll in the new VSP option may also use the Center for Eye Care Vision Services Agreement* for services and materials that are not covered by the VSP Vision Benefits Plan.

*The College of Optometrys existing Vision Services Agreement for eligible employees, retirees and their dependents it's pay-as-you-go, with no monthly premiums.

---$30 co-pay for comprehensive eye exam for employees and their dependents
---Save 40% on frames and lenses (20% on outside prescriptions)
---Save 50% on contact lens fitting examination, with no charge follow-ups for 3 months
---Save 20% on contact lenses
---Fee reductions on other professional services
