Delyn Stephenson

After studying Art History and Archaeology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Delyn went on to receive a master's degree in history from UMSL, graduating in 2020. She is currently the Assistant Director of the National Blues Museum in St. Louis. Delyn found her passion for history as a child while visiting Chicago's museums with her mother; she has been enamored ever since. While as any student does, Delyn bounced around from a few subjects but settled back into her passion for history. She encourages students to explore their interests. While receiving her master's degree, Delyn worked as an assistant at the National Blues Museum, which led to her current position. Having previously been Mizzou's student museum liaison, this assistantship was a natural fit. As Assistant Director, Delyn is responsible for a wide variety of tasks from art administration to grant writing and networking. She views the small size of her museum as an advantage as it gives her a lot of diversity in her day-to-day tasks and allows her to master new skills and interact with the community. Delyn emphasizes the importance of emotional intelligence, patience, and especially writing in order to be successful in your career. Her advice for students is that there is no typical career path and that you need to be willing to take risks.
