UMSL acknowledges that students may be temporarily unable to attend classes or be required to suspend their studies in order to perform military service. UMSL encourages such students to resume their education once a military service obligation has ended and adopts this policy to ensure the timely readmission of such students. Therefore, in accordance with 34 C.F.R. § 668.18, the Department of Defense (DoD) Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Chapter 3 of Volume 2 of the Federal Student Aid Handbook, UMSL will promptly and at the same status readmit servicemembers who seek readmission to a program that was interrupted due to a uniformed service obligation.

In addition:

  1. Every effort will be made to allow students who have completed a substantial portion of work in a course by the time they are called up to complete that course upon their re-enrollment at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (without the payment of any additional course fees).
  2. Servicemembers who have not completed a substantial portion of course work at the time of their call-up will be given a full refund of all educational fees paid in connection with the courses in question, as will any servicemember who is called up and would rather have a refund than the opportunity to complete her or his course work at a later date. Students receiving financial aid who are requesting a full refund should contact Student Financial Services to discuss the impact of withdrawing on their financial aid status.

  3. Other fees (including those for housing, food services, computer services, parking, health services, and student activities) will be refunded on a pro-rated basis (based on the date of the reservist having to discontinue class attendance).

Servicemembers who are called up and wish to re-enroll in the University of Missouri–St. Louis upon their deactivation will be allowed to do so without the payment of any application fee or other re-enrollment fee, provided they reenroll within six months of being the end of their military service obligation.
