ABSTRACT:  Notice of a constable’s sale for Steamboat Marmion in St. Louis, dated April 28, 1842. 

SCOPE: In this notice, James Gordon, Constable of St. Louis Township, announced that Steamboat Marmion would be auctioned on May 9, 1842. The Marmion was built in 1835 and operated in the Mississippi River between St. Louis and New Orleans until a collision with another steamboat in 1841. At the time of the collision, the Marmion was captained by John Staley. The sale was brought forth by Robert P. Clark, H.F. Given & Co., John R. Hammond, Jonas Newman, Sarah Mason, and the city of St. Louis.
