DATE: c.1980

CREATORS: Coosa-Alabama River Improvement Association and Learning Thru Seeing

ABSTRACT: Two teaching kits prepared by the Coosa-Alabama River Improvement Association and Learning Thru Seeing about Alabama Rivers and the Ohio River.

SCOPE: This collection is divided into 3 series for papers, film, and Coosa-Alabama River Association Kit Container. The papers include guides and activities for the film, as well as correspondence and other documents. The film includes two canisters (one untitled), and three cassette tapes (one untitled). The Alabama rivers kit was produced in 1980 and the Ohio River kit is undated.

Both teaching kits provide a river tour, including Indigenous history, geography, wildlife, traffic and infrastructure, towns, and more. The Coosa-Alabama River Improvement Association lessons and activities are based on fourth grade social studies objectives, but the Alabama State Secretary of Education encouraged teachers to adapt the material for other levels. The Ohio River kit was produced by Learning Thru Seeing in Chadron, Nebraska, and includes a booklet guide and film strip.
