SCOPE: The E.J. Carpenter Steamboat Photographs Collection consists of nine photographs of Ohio and Mississippi River scenes, most containing some aspect of steamboating, mounted on black cards. Photographs cover scenes on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, steamboats, an ice gorge and dam and Cincinnati scenes.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: E. J. Carpenter was an amateur landscape photographer, active in Cincinnati (Hamilton) in the early 1880s. According to the Enquirer, he made a specialty of Ohio River scenes.
