SCOPE: This collection consists of one early typewritten version of Alan Bates' work, The Western Rivers Steamboat Compendium, published by Hustle Press in 1968. The manuscript contains substantial variations from the finished work, including pen edits and a different layout. The manuscript also contains many pen and ink drawings of steamboats and steamboat construction, which would later appear in the finished work.
