P-6: John A. Creedy Papers and Photographs Collection

SCOPE: For many years, Mr. Creedy worked with the Water Transport Association, and this collection reflects his leadership and as a spokesman in the water transportation industry. This collection documents the use and development of the waterways in the towboat and barge era.

The photographs are organized into the categories: vessels and events; and people and companies. The Water Transport Association was an important advocate of inland waterways transportation system development, and handled the critical law suits of the industry before the Interstate Commerce Commission and in the courts for many years. The papers provide a running account of issues in the towboat and barge industries, particularly as they relate to the rail-water relationship.

EXTENT: Approximately 10 linear feet. This collection consists of books, government documents, speeches, reports, photographs, papers, and files of the specific events: the all-transportation package, Feed Grains to New England; Southern Railway Case, and the CSX case.

ACCESSThis is collection P-6. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building. More information about conducting research with the archival collections of the Library, including current building hours and reading room policies, can be found on our Research page.

Preferred Citation note: The preferred citation for this collection is "From the collections of the Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.”
