ABSTRACT: Illustrated advertisement for the Independence House hotel in Independence, Missouri, c. 1850.
HISTORY: Independence House was one of the earliest hotels in Jackson County, Missouri, during a period of westward immigration in the mid-19th century. Leonard Renick constructed the hotel in 1831 during a period of westward immigration in the mid-19th century, according to the Historical Marker Database. This advertisement names W.P. Twyman as the proprietor.
