M-701: Ca. 1980s Sticker Albums from an Illinois Coal Mine Worker

SCOPE: This collection contains five photo albums containing approximately 800 stickers collected by a coal mine worker from Marissa, Illinois. The sticker collected in these photo albums are from ca. 1980s. Some of the stickers contain dates, but the majority are undated; however, the dated stickers are all from the 1980s. Most of the stickers housed in this collection relate to blue-collar work, including coal mining union stickers, heavy-duty machinery stickers, electrical and pumping services stickers, and more. Additionally, many of the stickers are from blue-collar work sites in Illinois, including Mount Vernon and Kaskaskia.

ACCESS: This is collection M-701. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. INVENTORY: One gray archival box containing five photo albums, all with different exterior designs.

  1. Album 1: Autumnal mountain scene framed in yellow-leaved trees with a log cabin on the front; scene continued on the back with a cow.
  2. Album 2: Forest scene with tall white trees and red foliage front and back.
  3. Album 3: Allover seashell design.
  4. Album 4: Sunset ocean scene with birds flying above the water, mirrored from front to back.
  5. Album 5: Mottled red design with “Photo Album” written in gold across the front.
