ABSTRACT: This collection consists of a copy of a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln to O.D. Filley on December 22, 1863 regarding petitions made to remove Reverend Samuel McPheeters from his position at Pine Street Presbyterian Church over his alleged confederate sympathies. In the letter, Lincoln writes on the issue of separation of church and state.
