SCOPE: This collection contains approximately 600 postcards documenting different sites in Missouri. Within the collection are postcards from a plethora of Missouri cities and towns, including St. Louis, Kansas City, Hannibal, Booneville, Columbia, and many more. Additionally, there are postcards that document various sites in Missouri, including Forest Park, churches and streets in Kansas City, the Eads Bridge, the St. Louis Zoo, and others. There are some dividers in this collection to distinguish between towns and cities, but within these categories are some towns and cities that are not given their own distinction. Many of these cards are within sections simply labeled “Missouri.” A number of the postcards in this collection were written and sent, while some are blank. The dates for the sent postcards range from 1904 to 1956, and most of the postcards were sent to recipients in Kentucky.
PROVENANCE: This collection was received as a gift from the WT Young Library at the University of Kentucky on December 13th, 2024.
ACCESS: This is collection M-292. This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the collection may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, depending on condition. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building.
