SCOPE: This collection contains a single cyanotype print photograph that captures the first train to run across the Bellefontaine Bridge in St. Louis, Missouri. The Bellefontaine Bridge was built by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad to run across the Missouri River to connect St. Charles and St. Louis counties. Printed on the cyanotype is “FIRST TRAIN OVER BRIDGE B.B. DEC 27 ’93.” An article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from that day said the trip “[…] was not the formal opening of the bridge, but a test by the engineer.”
