We help schools and communities build character, strengthen citizenship, and support human flourishing.

Who We Are

The Center for Character and Citizenship helps schools and communities grow strong character and active citizenship.

We study how people develop moral and civic character—and how schools and organizations can support that growth. Our work brings together research and real-world practice to help educators, leaders, and communities create cultures where people can thrive.

Based at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, the Center partners with schools, universities, and organizations across the United States and around the world.

Our Mission

To engage in research, education, and advocacy to foster the development of character, democratic citizenship, and civil society.

We believe strong schools and healthy communities are built on trust, purpose, and shared values. Through our work, we support human flourishing and the common good.
