Student Affairs Administration and Leadership Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Student Affairs Administration & Leadership (SAAL) will prepare participants to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to pursue entry-level student affairs staff and administrative positions in a higher education setting.

  • College Access/Career Readiness Policy Development (with State and Federal Agencies such as MDHEWD and U.S. Dept. of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education)

Advanced Education Opportunities

The credit hours earned in the certificate program can also be applied toward the Master’s degree program in Adult and Higher Education with an emphasis in Higher Education.

Applicants who complete the certificate requirements and also have a master’s degree can apply the 12 credit hours for the certificate toward the 3-year accelerated EdD program which has a similar emphasis: College Access/Career Readiness and Student Services in Higher Education, also known as CASHE.

Students are considered for admission to the graduate certificate program in Student Affairs Administration and Leadership only after they have formally applied for admission through the Graduate School. Applications may be completed online.

Applicants are required to have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Please contact the Graduate Program Director to discuss any questions or concerns regarding the GPA requirement.

This degree program follows the policies of the College of Education and the Graduate School relating to academic standards, residency, transfer credit and time limitations. Applicants must meet the general graduate admission requirements of the Graduate School, described in the UMSL Bulletin.

Plan of Study

Students complete 12 credit hours of coursework to earn the graduate certificate. The following courses are required for completion of the graduate certificate:

Non-Missouri Residents: Prospective students are responsible for reviewing the NC-SARA state authorizations page to see if this program is offered in their state throughout their program and to review the licensure or certification requirements for the state in which they reside.
