Child and Adolescent Counseling Graduate Certificate

A 12-credit-hour program designed for mental health professionals and students who want to add an additional focus on child and adolescent counseling to their academic credentials.

The College of Education Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counseling provides an academic program to help mental health professionals and counseling students increase their understanding of theory, practice, and research for child and adolescent counseling in various settings. The coursework required for the certificate offer mental health professionals and counseling students a means to analyze factors that influence children and adolescents’ academic, career, social, and emotional well-being and success. As students complete the core and elective courses for the certificate, they will be ready to apply knowledge and skills to provide developmentally and culturally responsive counseling for children and adolescents. Students will also be prepared to demonstrate strategies to support and advocate for the mental health of children and youth involved in various systems of care, including family, school, and community settings.
