Praxis Exams

Overview

The Praxis exam is the official state content assessment required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for educator certification in Missouri. Candidates must pass the state-approved Praxis exam aligned with their subject area to qualify for certification.

Creating Your Account

  • Use a Personal Email: Do not use your university email address when setting up your Praxis account. Use a personal email account you will continue to access after graduation.
  • Include Your SSN: You must include your Social Security Number (SSN) in your profile. DESE requires your SSN to link your scores to your official DESE Educator Profile; omitting it will delay certification.

Score Reporting

  • Automatic Score Transfers: Your scores are automatically sent to DESE if you test at a Missouri testing center or at home with a Missouri address listed in your Praxis profile. If neither condition applies, you must manually select DESE (state code 7625) as a score recipient during registration.
  • Additional Reports: Test-takers can request additional score reports or other services by calling 1-800-772-9476.

Financial Assistance and Retakes

  • Need-Based Fee Waivers: Financial aid for test fees is available through the ETS Need-Based Fee Waiver program.
  • Third-Attempt Fee Voucher: If you need to take an exam a third time, you may be eligible for a free retake voucher if you completed at least 85% of your program, meet GPA requirements, and your previous score was within 7 points of passing.
    • Note: Candidates cannot apply directly for this waiver with ETS—you must contact your program advisor or certification officer to request it on your behalf.
